New Skills and Knowledge: Great experience with searching online and evaluating resources by actually doing it. The difference between the various domains (.org doesn't necessarily mean it's a reputable organization!) Difference between "trackstar" and a webquest.
Powerful websites to explore: Kidscribe.org allows kids to publish in their native language!
Wikipedia in various languages!
Vocabulary building with Scholastic.com that allows online practice with vocabulary word flashcards.
Short-term impacts:
I really like to encourage my kids to read in their native language so these websites will be truly powerful for them. Also, the evaluation piece will come in as we explore student work on various sites or in collection or info. In my teaching, I will take more time to talk about the reliability of info that can be found online.
Long-term impacts:
Definitely use more and more technology as I become more comfortable with it. Taking a step back to evaluate various forms of technology and ethical considerations. Very impacting to think about how quickly information is changing and the necessity to teach kids to navigate through their changing world.
Obstacles:
Time constraints to explore and play with for myself! I would love to have more support with power point and webquests since these are very new technologies for me. Thank YOU!
