Michelle Wie
Michelle Wie turned pro recently, she is not as welcome by the golfing community as Tiger was, but she is not considered a flop either. Nike signed her for a five year four to five million dollar contract, plus a multi-million dollar Sony investment. Wie can be used as a great marketing tool, says Nike, especially with her Korean lineage. Why you ask? Well, 40 percent of Nike's golf business is done internationally, and 20 percent of the world's golf retail business takes place in Japan. Wie speaks Korean, Chinese and Japanese. Combine a huge population with the fact that women's events in Asia consistently have higher TV ratings than the men's events, and it's easy to see why there is so much excitement about Wie at Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
